Mind Blown (no pun inteneded)

I see myself becoming this guy's fanatic. His stories are unique and tense, and I'm always shocked by how they develope. No cliches, no predictable story lines- he's delivered yet another gripping and absorbing story that I would have never imagined. I can't wait to get the next installments of this book! He's definately got a follower in this reader. ** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED **

A Must Read!!!

Luke Smitherd has delivered an honest-to-goodness masterpiece with "The Black Room". The tale is told in 4 parts but really should be read collectively. The story starts off with a somewhat whimsical tone, as our protagonist Charlie awakens one day living inside the mind/body of a woman he has never met. He's able to see what she sees, hear what she hears, and talk to her. That's as much as i can give away, but let me tell you this novel will keep you thinking for a long, long time. It is equal parts trippy, romantic, and thrilling. It has shades of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (also brilliant) to it, but adds more dimensions to the story to take what could have been just a fun mind-bender and turn it into a truly epic novel that stands up with anything the "Major Novelists" have put out in recent years.
A warning though: Part 1 is a bit deliberate. At the end of part 1 I was satisfied but I certainly did not think I held the Great Amer.. er...English Novel in my hands. Part 2 picked up the pace and parts 3 and 4 had me completely enthralled from start to finish. So if you are one of those readers who gives a novel 50 pages and then decided whether to plunge forward or not...well don't! This novel is a train that builds up a head of steam and then runs you over.
Some major publishing company needs to buy the rights to this book and give it the wide release it deserves. Until they do - read it and share it!

Another Home Run

Smitherd smashes it out of the park again with this interesting idea on the supernatural. Once again the characters have great depth and you feel engaged from the start. This is an original story, and refreshingly so.
Perhaps not my favourite of his stories so far, that has to belong to The Physics of the Dead, but then it's a different story so don't let that take anything away from it. A very worthy inclusion in the Luke Smitherd boxset, makes me wonder what other stories are lurking in that brain of his. Read it, share it, you won't be dissapointed.
