Although intended as an overview, it does its job of providing the introductory student with a good acquaintance with the various options in ethical theory.

The book begins with an introductory chapter discussion how to do ethics. This is followed by chapters on ethical relativism, moral objectivism, value and the quest for the good, social contract theory and the motive to be moral, egoism, self-interest, and altruism, utilitarianism, Kant and deontological theories, virtue theory, religion and ethics, the fact-value problem, and moral realism and the challenge of skepticism.

A section entitled "For Further Reflection" and suggestions for further reading follow each chapter. An added bonus is a four-page article at the end on "How to Read and Write a Philosophy Paper."

Not a "Tank Commander" as much as a "Commander of Tanks"

Accounts of First World War tank battles by the actual combatants is hard to come by. This book is as close as one can get and explains why.

The Author was not what I would call a Tank Commander, rather, as a Captain, he was the Commander of British Tank Companies, both combat and supply. He was present at many of the battles in which tanks were used and gives accounts of those battles.

I've had a long time interest in WW1 and have read much about it but never realized how many battles the tank participated in nor the number of tanks that the British had available, many hundreds towards the end of the war. It also is clear why there are few, if any, memoirs written by members of tank crews. The casualties were high. Most tanks in combat were blown up, burnt up, or otherwise put out of commission and few of the tank crews survived. I would like to read what the casualty rate was, it had to be extremely high.

This book is really a sort of diary so there is a lot of description of life in the reserve areas. His was an enviable position to be in. He was rarely exposed to fire but well placed to observe or be informed of the details of tank battle. Most of the book is about the details of his life out of the combat zones and descriptions of the France he saw.

Not a compelling read but of interest to anyone with a desire to know more about tank combat in WW1.
