Excellent first introduction to ethics

"Ethics: Discovering Right and Wrong" is one of the best brief introductions to ethical theory I've come across in my three decades as a philosophy instructor. Although intended as an overview, it does its job of providing the introductory student with a good acquaintance with the various options in ethical theory.
The book begins with an introductory chapter discussion how to do ethics. This is followed by chapters on ethical relativism, moral objectivism, value and the quest for the good, social contract theory and the motive to be moral, egoism, self-interest, and altruism, utilitarianism, Kant and deontological theories, virtue theory, religion and ethics, the fact-value problem, and moral realism and the challenge of skepticism.
A section entitled "For Further Reflection" and suggestions for further reading follow each chapter. An added bonus is a four-page article at the end on "How to Read and Write a Philosophy Paper."
